"The Backtests Matter More Than the Signups": CoinQuant’s Story, as Told to Beirut Digital District

CoinQuant was recently featured by Beirut Digital District, the startup community where the company's operating mindset took shape. The full interview, How CoinQuant Is Turning Trading Ideas Into Tested Strategies, sits down with founder and CEO Maan Ftouni to talk about why most traders never get to test their ideas, how CoinQuant changes that, and what the team is building next.

The premise is simple. Almost everyone who follows the markets has a hypothesis. Almost no one has an accessible way to test it. For years, getting a real answer required coding skills, professional software, or a quantitative research team. CoinQuant removes that barrier: describe a strategy in plain English, and the platform tests it against years of historical market data.

Here are the takeaways that stood out from the conversation.

1. One hundred thousand backtests tell you what traders actually want

Since launch, more than 20,000 users have signed up and completed over 100,000 backtests. Maan is clear about which number matters more:

"Signups tell you that people are interested. One hundred thousand backtests tell you what they were looking for once they arrived: answers."

People do not come for another dashboard. They come with a market idea and stay when they can finally test it.

2. The AI debates, but the numbers are real

AI helps users formulate, explore, and refine strategy ideas. The results, however, come from a deterministic testing engine that uses tick-level market data with real fees and slippage. That separation is deliberate: a backtest that ignores trading costs, or gets tweaked until history looks favorable, will flatter an idea rather than test it. CoinQuant is built to show what a strategy could honestly have done under real market conditions.

3. Build, Analyze, Automate is the whole product in three words

A user types an instruction like "Buy the golden cross on Bitcoin. Sell at ten percent profit or after ten days, whichever comes first." CoinQuant structures it into a strategy (Build), tests it against historical data with key results like performance, win rate, and drawdowns (Analyze), and will close the gap to live trading by running deployed strategies through the same engine that tested them (Automate). Live automation is still in development and not yet live; today the platform covers Build and Analyze end to end.

4. HYDRA and AI agents point at where this is going

The interview also covers HYDRA, CoinQuant's multi-agent research system. Instead of one sentence producing one strategy, a user will set a broader objective, such as a portfolio across crypto and US equities with specific risk limits, and several AI agents will research, build, challenge, and risk-check options before presenting them.

Maan also expects some future users to be autonomous AI agents themselves, which is why CoinQuant is building controls like spending allowances, position limits, and vetoes that hold no matter what a model recommends. As he puts it, humans and AI agents should be held to the same standard of proof.

5. Headquartered in Dubai, operating system from Beirut

CoinQuant is headquartered in Dubai, but the resourcefulness behind it was shaped in Beirut, and BDD gave that mindset a community of founders and operators who build the same way. The company is now raising a $3 million seed round to expand into more markets, exchanges, and languages while developing its live automation and AI research capabilities.
